Neurological conditions (adults) — physiotherapy at Epstein Hunt

Adult neurological physiotherapy

This page covers the cluster of adult neurological conditions we work with that aren’t stroke or Parkinson’s (each have their own home elsewhere on the site). Multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and scoliosis all sit here.

Multiple sclerosis (MS)

Physiotherapy for MS focuses on maintaining strength, mobility, and quality of movement — and adapting through relapses and remissions. The heated pool is often a particularly useful environment for people with MS, as warm water can support movement that feels too tiring on land. We work alongside your neurologist and MS team.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI)

Physiotherapy after a traumatic brain injury focuses on movement quality, balance, and the practical functions of daily life. Recovery happens over a long arc, and we will be honest with you about what we’re seeing as we work together.

Spinal cord injury (SCI)

Physiotherapy for spinal cord injury depends greatly on the level and completeness of the injury and the time since injury. We work with your wider rehabilitation team and tailor work to your goals. Aquatic therapy is often a useful component.

Scoliosis

Physiotherapy for scoliosis varies hugely with the curve, the age of the patient, and the wider medical plan. We work with what your orthopaedic specialist has recommended.

When to consult your medical team

For all neurological conditions, your physiotherapy work runs alongside the care of your neurologist, orthopaedic specialist, or wider medical team. Anything new or worrying — sudden weakness, neurological changes, new pain — needs medical attention first.
