Aquatic physiotherapy

Water-based rehabilitation in our on-site heated pool — gentler on joints, often a kinder path through pain.

Aquatic physiotherapy at Epstein Hunt Physiotherapy

What aquatic physiotherapy is

Aquatic physiotherapy (sometimes called hydrotherapy) is physiotherapy delivered in a heated pool, with a qualified physiotherapist guiding you the whole time. The warm water gently supports your body weight, which means you can move, strengthen, and rebuild confidence with less load through painful joints.

It is not a swimming lesson. You don’t need to be a strong swimmer — most of the work happens in standing depth with the therapist beside you.

What a session looks like

  1. Assessment first. Your first appointment includes a thorough on-land assessment so we understand your goals, history, and any precautions before we plan time in the water.
  2. Warm-water entry. Our heated pool is private and step-supported.
  3. Guided exercises. Tailored movements — strength, balance, mobility — at the pace that suits you.
  4. A plan you can repeat. You leave with a clear sense of what comes next.

Why we offer it

The water gives a different therapeutic surface to work on. Buoyancy reduces joint load, hydrostatic pressure can help with swelling and circulation, and the warmth helps muscles soften and relax — all of which can open a window for the kind of progress that feels harder to achieve on land alone.

Who delivers it

Both physiotherapists in our practice work in the pool. Aquatic therapy is central to how we approach paediatric neurodevelopmental care and chronic pain management.
