MAES therapy

An advanced paediatric neurological approach focused on movement analysis and educational strategy — helping children with cerebral palsy and similar conditions explore their potential.

MAES therapy at Epstein Hunt Physiotherapy

What MAES therapy is

MAES — Movement Analysis & Education Strategies — is an advanced paediatric neurological approach developed for children with cerebral palsy and similar neurodevelopmental conditions. It builds on the child’s own emerging movement strategies rather than imposing adult patterns onto them.

The approach is hands-on, goal-directed, and slow in the best sense: the therapist watches, listens, and responds to what the child shows them.

What a session looks like

  1. Observation and listening. How is your child moving today? What are they trying to do?
  2. Tailored movement experiences. Active explorations that build on the child’s existing strategies.
  3. Parent and caregiver collaboration. What we discover is yours to take home and use through the week.

Who delivers it

Perla Epstein has completed the advanced MAES course and integrates MAES principles with NDT and aquatic therapy. Her approach is to build strong connections with the children she works with and let those relationships do half of the therapeutic work.

A note for parents

MAES is not a quick fix and we will not promise an outcome — but many families find it a more respectful, more child-led way to do paediatric neuro work. We’re glad to talk you through whether it fits where your child is right now.
