Stroke rehabilitation

Physiotherapy for adults recovering after a stroke — combining hands-on neurological work with aquatic therapy and progressive rehabilitation.

Stroke rehabilitation — physiotherapy at Epstein Hunt

Stroke rehabilitation in plain language

A stroke happens when blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted, which can affect movement, sensation, balance, speech, and many other functions. Physiotherapy is one part of stroke recovery — usually alongside occupational therapy, speech therapy where needed, and ongoing medical care.

How we work with stroke recovery

  • Hands-on neurological work (NDT). Supporting the body in finding more efficient movement strategies.
  • Aquatic therapy. The heated pool reduces fear of falling and gives a forgiving surface for early movement work.
  • Progressive land-based rehab. Walking, balance, strength, and the daily movements that matter most to you.

What to expect

Stroke recovery happens over months and years. The first weeks and months often show the most visible change — but meaningful progress continues long after that, and the right physiotherapy work supports it.

We will work with your medical team where useful, and we will be honest about what we’re seeing as we go.

When to call your doctor

If you experience any new neurological symptoms during recovery — sudden weakness, vision changes, severe headache, confusion — please contact your doctor or emergency services straight away.
